DAY TWO | Fasting as a Spiritual Discipline

Updated: 3 days ago

January 2, 2025 | 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

TODAY'S PRAYER POINT

Pray for strength to remain committed during this time of fasting & praying.

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE Matthew 6:16-18 | 16 “Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face 18 so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you."

Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that helps us draw closer to God. It is an opportunity to set aside physical needs to focus on spiritual growth.

As you begin fasting, recognize that what you are giving up is done to deepen your reliance on God.

Use the time spent on that which you are fasting from, to grow closer to God by:

  • Reading your Bible

  • Praying, and

  • Listening to Him through times of worship and praise.

**SUGGESTION** Ask God to reveal any areas, motives, or habits in your life that you need His help to change. Then respond immediately in obedience to replace those things with others that will draw you closer to Him.

PRAYER~

Heavenly Father, as I begin this time of fasting, I ask for Your strength to sustain me. Grant me the perseverance to resist temptation, and the focus to draw closer to You.

Help me to turn my physical hunger into a longing for Your presence and Your Word.

May this fast deepen my faith and renew my spirit, fill me with Your peace and purpose, and remind me that my strength comes from You alone.

.

In Jesus' name I pray~ Amen.

FEATURED WORSHIP Play this in the background while praying, meditating on God's Word, Journaling, etc.
